ECOFED wins 2024 Regio Foodvalley ICT Innovation Award
On 16 October, ECOFED was awarded the 2024 Regio Foodvalley ICT Innovation Award, recognising the project’s innovative approach to building an open and federated European cloud ecosystem.
ECOFED brings together five partners with a shared ambition: to give organisations greater freedom and control over their cloud infrastructure. By enabling them to use and switch between different cloud solutions without becoming dependent on a single provider, ECOFED aims to create a more open, flexible and future-proof cloud landscape.
The award also recognises the close collaboration behind the project. Five companies, each with their own expertise and interests, are working together towards a common goal and combining their knowledge to develop an interoperable cloud ecosystem.
An open alternative to vendor lock-in
ECOFED is designed to make it easier for organisations to use services from different cloud providers and move workloads and data between them. Its open and federated approach reduces dependence on individual providers and gives organisations greater freedom to choose the cloud solutions that best suit their requirements.
Rather than creating yet another isolated cloud platform, ECOFED focuses on connecting providers and services within an open ecosystem. This allows organisations to adapt their cloud strategy as their needs evolve while retaining control over where their data and workloads are hosted.
Strengthening European digital sovereignty
Digital sovereignty is one of the key principles behind ECOFED. European organisations should be able to make their own choices about their data, infrastructure and technology, without unnecessary dependence on individual providers or non-European platforms.
By creating an open ecosystem in which European cloud providers can work together, ECOFED contributes to a stronger and more autonomous European digital infrastructure. Organisations gain more options for keeping their data and processes within Europe while maintaining the flexibility to choose between different providers and services.
Winning the Regio Foodvalley ICT Innovation Award is an important recognition of that ambition and of the collaboration making it possible.
